Vintage Afshar Sirjan Rug 7.2 x 5.2 ft / 218 x 158 cm Tree of Life 13497

Tree of Life and Paradise Garden

Stylised pomegranate trees repeat across the entire field. Their light-coloured trunks and branching stems carry flowers and fruit in red, pink and warm golden tones. Small floral motifs fill the spaces between them. Subtle differences between the trees give the repeated pattern a lively, handmade character.

As a tree of life motif, the fruit-bearing trees represent life, growth and abundance. Together they evoke a paradise garden: a sheltered, flourishing place enclosed by the surrounding borders. This relationship between garden imagery and tree of life symbolism gives the rug its distinctive narrative quality.

Dark Ground and Colourful Detail

The very dark blue ground brings the light branches, flowers and fruit into clear relief. Red and pink dominate many of the floral details, complemented by cream, golden brown and occasional muted greenish accents. Several narrow borders of small flowers and scrolling motifs frame the field in red, dark blue and lighter tones.

The design extends evenly across the surface without a dominant central medallion. This allows the tree pattern to remain recognisable even when part of the rug sits beneath furniture.

Afshar Weaving from Sirjan

This Persian rug belongs to the Afshar weaving tradition of the Sirjan region. Its stylised plants and closely arranged details combine floral imagery with the clear forms of traditional tribal designs.

It has a wool pile on a cotton foundation. Despite being over 50 years old, the rug remains in excellent condition. Its approximately 9–10 mm pile gives it a pleasantly textured surface. Explore further individual pieces in our vintage rug collection.

Size and Interior Placement

Measuring 218 x 158 cm, approximately 7 ft 2 in x 5 ft 2 in, the rug covers around 3.44 m² / 37.1 sq ft. It suits a smaller seating arrangement in the living room, an open area in the bedroom, or a reading corner.

The colourful drawing adds warmth and detail alongside wood, leather and plain fabrics. In a pared-back interior, it can serve as the main patterned accent; with older furniture, its vintage character creates a natural connection.
