Senneh vintage Gol Farang carpet 6.6 x 4.6 ft - 15202
Senneh rugs from the Kurdistan
In Kordistan lies the city of Sanandaj (in Kudisch Sine / Senneh), it is the capital of the province of Kordestan and lies in the highlands at about 1500 meters above sea level.
In Sanandaj / Senneh, rugs are traditionally knotted using the Turkish knot. Although they belong to the category of Bidjar carpets, their density and structure are very different from classic Bidjar rugs. Senneh are usually knotted from high quality wool. The warp is almost always made of cotton, in rare cases mostly antique pieces of real silk, sometimes also in differently colored silk yarns. Senneh rugs are often made with only one weft thread between the rows of knots, which results in a special, almost grainy structure on the back of the carpet. The Turkish knot, which is also known as Senneh knot or Ghiordesknot, was named after this type of carpet. Senneh almost always have a so-called mahi (fish) motif, consisting of a stylized lotus flower surrounded by a diamond (the diamond represents a pond in the paradise garden). This is flanked by four fish. This repeat pattern is one of the popular motifs in Persian carpet knotting.
