Abadeh Persian carpets
Abadeh carpets are made in the north of the Fars region in Persia. As a rule, they are good, tightly knotted utility carpets of decent quality. Typical is the motif which has a hexagonal diamond as the middle field in which an octagonal medallion is incorporated as the center. The inner panel is decorated with stylized trees of life that lead to the center on the longitudinal axis. Decorative elements are often animals, plants and flowers, which show the influence of the Gashgai nomads of southern Persia on this type of carpet. Abadeh carpets are usually made in the main colors red and blue; light-ground carpets are rarer. Old Abadeh carpets sometimes have a continuous vase pattern which is referred to as Zil-I-Sultan. The base fabric consists of cotton, the knot used is asymmetrical (Persian knot) and the knot density for coarse pieces is approx. 120,000 m² and for fine carpets it can be up to 360,000 m².
