What is a vintage rug?
As the name suggests, the rug is vintage - meaning used. Vintage rugs are sustainable because no new material was used.
What is typical of vintage rugs?
Basically, you have to distinguish between two types of vintage rugs. First the classic, old and used rugs with their original patina - usually with traditional, strong colors. Secondly, the faded and reduced-pile rugs. These are also old rugs, but they have been bleached and sheared using a special process to give them a special look. What they all have in common is that they have signs of wear.
Are real vintage rugs sustainable?
In principle, it is always good if a product has a very long service life, since no new replacement product has to be manufactured during use. Real rugs have a very long life expectancy and for this reason alone they are sustainable. Added to this is the use of renewable raw materials that are not based on petroleum products - in contrast to almost all machine-made imitation vintage rugs, which are made of polyester or polypropylene.
