Loribaft rugs - modern nomadic rugs
Loribaft are a carpet genus from the southwest of Iran. On the slopes of the Zagros Mountains live a variety of nomadic tribes who traditionally weave colorful rugs with graphic and stylized patterns. The designation is not chosen according to the place of manufacture, as with most Persian rugs (for example, Keschan rugs come from the city of Keschan), but after the weavers. Loribaft means translated "Lori-knotted", where Lori is the name of a sub-tribe of Bachtiari nomads from southwest Persia.
In the design of the Loribaft carpets there are still traditional motifs from the imagery of the nomads. In addition to trees of life, stylized animals, plants and humans, there are also protective symbols against the evil eye. The interpretation of the motifs is very modern and reduced - this fits the Loribaft carpet perfectly to a modern western decor.
Today, due to declining numbers of nomads and their sheep, only a few genuine Loribafts are produced in Persia, prices have risen steadily in recent years. Other countries, such as India, Pakistan and Afghanistan, produce carpets of similar or similar design. These carpets are often very different in quality - so there are from India Loribaft Loom carpets in the lower price segment and simple wool quality and also very high quality carpets with fine knotting and excellent wool.
