About Tabriz carpets
Tabriz carpets - unique items from the Djoharian Collection
Carpets from Tabriz are among the most popular Persian carpets. The reasons for this are simple: high-quality handcraft, fine knotting, fine materials and elaborate designs give Tabriz carpets the exclusive touch.
The art of knotting has been documented in Tabriz for over 500 years - often through impressively large and fine knitting work for kings and princes.
In the 20th century Tabriz has developed into the most important production location for exquisite kurkwool and silk carpets. Simple qualities start with a knot density of approx. 90,000 knots per m² or 60 KPSI, extremely fine pieces achieve finenesses of over 2,000,000 knots per m² or 1350 KPSI. A floral drawing (Nachsche) or a floral repeat (Mahi = fish) is typical. Tabriz is also known for its particularly fine carpets with pictorial and figurative designs.
