A roomsize rug with traditional Samarkand Khotan design, hand knotted in Afghanistan in Khotan style. The pile is made of high end quality wool - hand spun, hand dyed with all vegetable dyes and knotted by master weavers. The rug is very decorative and has a stunning look. The condition is exquisite and new / unused. The rug was made in Afghanistan close to the Pakistan border. Today Afghan weaving skills are used to produce ancient style and looked after Khotan rugs. The design has Samarkand and Chinese Influences which is typical for Khotan design. Colors and style are also seen on semi antique or vintage Pomegranate Samarkand and Khotan carpets.
The rug is made of a woolen pile - warp and weft are cotton.
Khotan Samarkand rugs originate in the far east of Uzbekistan at the border to China. This design with the cloud bands originates in ancient Chinese silk embroidery - it is very typical for Khotan rugs. It has beautiful colors as light denim blue, grey, beige and rust red.
