This beautiful rug originated in rural Afghanistan, where it was hand-knotted by tribal weavers. All pile material is handspun wool that has been dyed with vegetable and mineral pigments. It is of excellent quality with a subtle sheen and vibrant organic colours. The design comes from ancient Persia. The style of this rug is known as the sickle leaf motif and is typical of antique rugs from the Safavid Dynasty in the late 16th century. A rug of this design is currently the most expensive rug of all time, selling for almost $34 million at Sotheby's and is known as Corcoran's Clark Sickle-Leaf Carpet. The 2013 auction reignited interest in these ancient and beautifully forgotten designs.
We produce these carpets in cooperation with regional cooperatives in Afghanistan.
The rug is Label STEP certified.
